調和無我的美國1787年在費城憲法會議: Constitutional Convention

What was the purpose of the Philadelphia meeting in 1787?

Constitutional Convention

By the time of the Constitutional Convention, also known as the Philadelphia Convention, most Americans were argeed that the Articles of Confederation that had many problems needed to be addressed. Uprisings like Shays's Rebellion convinced many that change was necessary. The congress under the Articles issued a call for a convention to be held in Philadelphia in May, 1787. The stated purpose of that convention was to revise the Articles of Confederation. After only a few days of meetings, the 55 delegates at the convention agreed that revision of the Articles was not enough and that a new plan of government was needed. It would be easier to create a new plan of government ( a peaceful coup d'etat) than to try and amend the Articles of Confederation. The delegates met in secret and developed what we now know as the Constitution of the United States. Two groups, the large state delegates and the small state delegates, presented plans for a new constitution. Much compromise was necessary before the final draft was completed. The delegates created a federal system of government in which power would be shared between state governments and the national government. A republic was created in which the citizens would elect (select) representatives to handle the day-to-day affairs of the national government. Behind the basis of the new constitution was the idea that the people would be sovereign. MrV
